Today is a "200 point day". Have you noticed this also?
I woke up and under my door was a note from the maids. They were shorthanded today and the note read that if I choose not to have my room "serviced", I could get 200 Marriott Rewards points -- just let the office know. So I did. 200 points will get me a cup of free coffee.
I drove to work and stopped to get some gasoline. I got an extra Speedway (SuperAmerica) coupon which said that if I took a survey, I would get 200 points. I left the coupon in the car when I arrived at work...I was already late.
At lunchtime, the ATM where I pulled out twenty dollars for my lunch and extra gasoline money also gave me a coupon...you guessed it, 200 points to my non-existent credit union account (I bank with Twin Cities Federal -- TCF -- bank in Minnesota. They don't have branches in the Dayton area. Yet).
And before I posted here, one of the airlines offered me 200 points to their frequent flyer mileage account if I clicked on their site and answered a couple of questions. I didn't do that. Sorry Spirit Air.
So just in the run of the day, various merchants tossed 800 points to me in some way or another. Doesn't do anything when your balance is less than 2000 points; but at least I know that they're doing their marketing thing and find me desirable to give some points to.
How about instead a couple good for a free mug of coffee, huh? That's something I can ALWAYS use!
You sure had a lucky day with your story about all those points. While I accept discount codes and sometimes get free shipping with a certain purchase amount, I never accumulate points that are enough, except, perhaps, those cash back points money rewards I get from putting everything in monthly bills on my credit card.
