Bomb Cyclone!

Sounds kind of cool.

But wickedly cold and scary.

That's is one the latest descriptions of the cold weather that has hit the North East in early 2018. {reference: Winter storm 2018: almost the entire East Coast is covered in snow }

So cold, Niagara Falls has seemed to freeze.

I grew up in Wisconsin, so I remember blizzards with with blowing snow as high as roofs and temperatures like the time we walked to our college classes in northwestern Wisconsin eight blocks in crisp, clear 50� below zero. But I don't ever recall splitting and having my spittle freeze before it hit the ground. I do recall many times when I would comb my hair with water and shortly after finding it frozen solid. The best hairspray there ever was. I refused to wear a hat and earmuffs made my jug ears sore if I wore them more than 20 minutes and frostbitten if I went without them more than 10.

True to the lament of the Mamas and Papas, I stuck out the winter of 1966 on the fourth floor of the YMCA dormitory in Madison listening to Simon and Garfunkel's "I am a rock, a fortress sleep and mighty." Against the cold sloppy streets below. By the fall I was headed to sunny California. California became everything I hoped it would be.
