POOR MAN'S ARSENAL 101
 

In our past issues we have outlined certain improvised weapons which could be used for self-defense. While these may work OK against street thugs, barroom drunks, and potential date rapists; the best defense for an armed intruder coming into your home is a gun. However, not all guns are created equal- some are so good that you could rop it in a quicksand pit and it'll still fire without stoppage (for example the W. German HK91 assault rifle) to so bad that you are better off using a baseball bat and bad language (for example the U.S. made Davis .22 pocket pistol). But do you have a spare $2,000+ for an HK91? We didn't think so. So we listed guns tested or owned by yours truly which are both of good quality and affordable (so even low life bums like us can pack a decent piece that won't blow up in our faces). Some gun snobs out there- like tht riot grrl we met with her Beretta 92F nine mm in Ann Arbor or that rich house punk in Tucson with his Dragunov sniper rifle may not like our choices but FUCK YOU. Give us money then maybe we can as kool as you are!
 

SKS RIFLE MODEL 56- Our personal favorite! A 10 shot fixed magazine semi-automatic assault rifle. First utilized by russians before using the AK-47. It also uses the same caliber, the 7.62x39 mm (aka 7.62mm NATO) cartridge. We've seen these priced anywhere from $70 to $140, but don't let that fool you. This rifle has a proven reliability for almost 40 years. It is also a proven killer (the dude who shot at the White House and the psycho responsible for the recent Bronx massacre both used SKS's in these incidents). Since the clinton ban on imported arms, supplies of the SKS have been drying up, so if you have one you better get one damned quick!!
 

MAK90 SEMI-AUTO RIFLE- Another winner! A chinese sporter version of the AK rifle. It's barrel is shorter than the SKS but has a detachable magazine. It's also $100 more in price and on the clinton crime bill hitlist- so if you have the extra bucks get one of these.
 

MOSSBERG 500/ ITHACA 37/ REMINGTON 870/ WINCHESTER M12 AND M97- We've dumped all these shotguns in the same group beacuse they are partically the same. In being that they're all good dependable home defense shotguns. Most have a five or shot pump magazine and are available in barrels of 18" to 28". We prefer the 18" riotgun barrel- fucking devastating! You may want a longer one depending upon the area you live. Cheap versions of all these may be brought used as we've seen good Mossberg 500 ATP6's for around $150-$190 used. However, Winchester Model 12 and Model 97's may be a bit hard to find.
 

RUSSIAN MAKAROV/ NORINCO TOKAREV/ CZ-52- Thanks to the breakup of the Soviet Union/ Warsaw Pact cheap imports like these had been flooding the gates. At the top of our list is the Makarov semi-auto hand gun available in 9x18 mm or .380 caliber with a magazine capacity of ten rounds. I think it was the offical pitol of the Soviet police as well. The chinese- made Tokarev pistol uses a 9mm Parabellum caliber but it is on the anti-gunner ban list- so you better get'em while they're hot. Last but not least- is the Czech CZ-52 pistol in the 7.62x25mm caliber witha 8 round magazine capacity. All of these fine handguns could be brought for $150-$200, shop around for the best deal.


 

BRITISH LEE EINFIELD No.4- This bolt action deer rifle was a legend in World War One. It uses a .303 caliber fed from a ten round fixed magazine. Also it's very powerful and has quite a recoil. Many surplus rifles in good to very good condition can be found VERY cheap (around $80- $120). While most of these rifles are agood buy many tend to be old as well. It's suggested to have one examined by a gunsmith before using it for defensive purposes.
