              More on Change

[thoughts from the shadow worlds -- Sha'Tara]

The question was, "where does real change originate" and the obvious answer was: within oneself.

The next obvious question is, how do we bring about the kind of change we desire?  That's a crucial question for those of us who would become avatars in our own right.  As long as we depend on others, or another, to give us the change we desire, well, that's chancy, to say the least.  All we need do is look around at all those people who wish and pray and hope and wait... and all those others who simply give up.

The first wave of change we must be completely in control of is the personal choice to change one's own nature.  It's finding the power to change a totally unreliable nature for one that will remain on track, no matter what the circumstances.  Again I must reiterate that for those who have relied (and continue to rely) on divinities, saviours, angels, gurus, teachers or even aliens(!) to make this change for them, it has not worked and the little it has appeared to work is simply what they, themselves accomplished with a great deal of effort.

So, how do I go about changing what is obviously a debilitated and debilitating spiritual, moral and physical nature?

I'm going to now speak of experience, not something I think sounds good, or worse, something I read that someone else channeled from some ascended master who got it from some archangel who got it from God.  No matter what history shows, no matter what's been said, written, preached, the bottom line is, it has to work -- for me.  Since none of the above worked for me, at least not anywhere near the extent I expected of all that verbal commotion, I have to do stuff to know if the stuff works.  Research.  Experience.

What is experience? It's a compendium of all those things I had to tackle that were beyond me; that were bigger than I was at the time; things I accomplished, overcame or failed at... and accepted, or to be poetic, I wrote as stanzas in my lifesong.

So change, real change, personal and definitive, comes from stuff that is bigger than me, always.  If it's something I've already done, or I know I can handle without difficulty or challenge, there will be no change resulting from that effort.  Even in the daily grind, the humdrum of life, there is always an opportunity... I should say an endless array of opportunities to go beyond the "called for" and make that awesome difference for others and consequently for oneself.

Among the countless examples I've seen of ordinary people doing the extraordinary, here is a story from today.  I was in a local "Money Mart" doing a transaction.  It was very busy and there was a lineup.  One young woman was by herself behind the counter handling the rush.  I watched her interacting with customers and there was tension but she never wavered, never got upset and kept giving advice, or trying to pull information from her computers.  My turn came.  I had change coming back and I left it for her - a substantial amount, and obviously an unexpected bonus for her.  I told her I admired her poise and she deserved a thank you that would make a difference.

It was good.

Bravo for the gift! Good write. I think change is certainly gradual anyway, and not at any time so 'instant', although we often think it is instant or we wish it were! What we perceive as instant change could be an 'eruption' from a buildup of efforts past, etc. Cheers

I sense change as the essence of life itself… and life as the substance of change. And while this correlation may seem as obvious as it is, the actual attributes of change have several differences, some very subtle, others more evident, at each one of those levels – a concept (again, personal, and therefore far from unarguable) that I’ll try to explain as briefly as possible. As essence of life, change is that which we can’t control, hold, fight, ignore; like everything in the universe, WE ARE in constant change… WE ARE constant change, in the sense that we transform as we are conceived, as we are born, grow, and live… and then die, but the transformation doesn’t stop even then – come to think of it… even what we define as inanimate, like rocks, for example, may not be that “lifeless” after all, for it is also subject to this essence common to all things – change! As essence of life, therefore, change isn’t good or bad – it simply IS (intrinsic attribute). But then there is another kind of change, and, contrary to the linearity of the first, this one is rather ambiguous; it pertains to the extrinsic attribute of life (as substance of change) and its influence upon us; it entails, therefore, all those exterior circumstances and interactions that define life as what we experience. In this, there is indeed much we can control, select, work on, and… even ignore (consciously or unconsciously) about change; and yes, our choices will determine whether change is, indeed, good or bad – because, much as many of us may not be willing to agree with this, we always have a choice, even regarding those circumstances (extrinsic attribute) which we cannot change; and this, because we can always change our own attitude, we can always work on our adaptation, we can always… choose (paraphrasing, somewhat, Heraclitus of Ephesus) “to flow with or be flooded by” change; this is also the “level” of the life/change – change/life correlation at which we learn to discern “good” and “bad”, and even the subtle nuances of “good” within the apparently “bad”, and of “bad” within the seemingly “good”. Thank you, Sha’ Tara, for one more essence-substance stirring article; and thank you, mon Ami, for bringing it to us. Love to you both, as two ever evolving segments of one magnificent whole.

Looking within ourselves we will find the solutions they told us.
But they don't look as they go bulldozing our familiar physical and emotional landscape into an unrecognizable entity.
We need to look into ourselves a little more deeper.

I believe that we have the power within us to understand how to better ourselves and better the world at the same time, We need to seek a balance between our needs and the needs of others.

It has been said "God helps those who help themselves." I believe that the choices that I've made [many of which were extremely difficult] were made through God enlightening my heart, mind and soul. In the end, it is I who made the choice, but not by myself. Whether a person believes in God or a Higher/Supreme Being, each of us makes choices based on what we believe to be in our best interests. I think people who make a difference in life make that choice because, ultimately, it makes them and the receiver feel better.

God bless you. Kathy

Great article ... and just what I am about to go through, at least one of the changes. Sometimes as in the case of this one, it is very painful, others can be exciting and stressful at the same time. No matter what the change is, we can plant the positive in our heads and our hearts. And, we become stronger.

There is this closet of skeletons that we all have, I went into mine one day & blew off the dust of shame, guilt, and secrets. I was tierd of keeping this door closed. I wondered to myself WHY? Why do I need to feel this Shame? This Guilt? And Keep These Secrets? They are not really my secrets anyway. Someone conditioned me to feel this. Someone else wanted me to feel poorly. I am now seeing my shames, my guilts, and my secrets as mistakes that are valiable learning tools Just For Me!! I grabed all my skeletons & turned up the music & began to dance!!

My wife was scared to death to move where we are now. I told her she didn't have enough faith in herself.
We didn't know anyone in this new town. It was a little tuff at first, but now my wife wouldn't move away from here for anything.
I didn't want my two kids going to school in the big city because of the crime and drugs.
I moved for me is the truth of it.
Stay safe Regis.

Great article, we are all here to learn and better ourselves. So we all must change to some degre, with motivation in order for the change to come from within ourselves. Events that occur in our life propel us to want to change.

Regis, I really enjoyed your article and I agree that change has to come from within; however, it is generated from without.

As we grow, make mistakes, learn, and interact with others, we are constantly analyzing ourselves, reshaping ourselves, testing our hypothesis, and remaking ourselves. It is a constant process of building, observing critically what we've constructed, and rebuilding and/or repairing.

I think many of us are weaker than others and need a powerful deity to lean upon in times of need--thus, God. When I am weak and striving, I ask for strength from God. From your point of view, that could simply be a method of pulling strength from within instead of it coming from God, but regardless, if it works to help me become a better person then doesn't it stand to reason that God is good and is always a shining light for those who need and rely upon him.

I think the magic words that shape our lives are: "I want..." If we know what we want, then we put ourselves in the right frame of mind toward positive change.
