The Way of the Avatar- a Vision
Sha’Tara
So you sit, thinking. There seems nothing much else to do, and thinking, when done, well, with deep thought, can enlighten not just the mind, but the body. What was I thinking about? Fleeting ideas which collaged into evanescent images. Remembrances. Vague but disturbing feelings chasing each other over a bleak landscape of blue-tinged sand dunes, wind-eroded rock cast in elongated silhouettes and gnarled, blackened tree trunks like pillars supporting a darkening crepuscular sky – I suppose that could be called redundant, but in this case, it isn’t. There is that time after sunset when the sky gives up, one by one, the colours of its day, and there is a darkened landscape, not always caused by coming night, but by the colour given it by one’s observation mixed with certain thoughts. Or feelings. Or premonitions or old memories that somehow slipped themselves unobtrusively, unobserved into that nebulous future one’s mind is slipping into. I have seen such landscapes even in the middle of a bright sunny day, especially near the sea, with my body lying on the wet sand in stand-by mode, my mind far, far away.
Something of the past that needs to be recognized has slipped the bonds of time and become a piece of your future. And now you feel it, whatever it is. A weight persists in your heart and you breathe with great difficulty. Sadness envelopes you completely, leaving room for nothing else. And you are forced to ask of the ether, “What is this thing that I feel so keenly, yet cannot see, hear, or make any sense of?”
The reply? So predictable. “It’s you. It’s the forgotten aspect of you that needs for you to recognize it and bring it back to life. It’s time to reassemble yourself, to claim yourself and know yourself, not just pieces but all of you. It’s time to be born again, only this time, of yourself, by yourself. There is no one else for you now, you’ve made your choice and brought yourself here. This is the darkness of death that precedes life. Die and you shall give yourself life. Hesitate, refuse, and you will most certainly die.
From light to darkness; from life to death, then out of emptiness will arise that which is both, old and new. Such is the life of the Phoenix; such is the way of the Avatar.
