Were we Somehow deliberately made Somewhat Stupid?
[thoughts from ~burning woman~ by Sha’Tara]
An intelligent, or supposed intelligent person (though who’s to really know, as, compared to what, or to whom?) decides somewhere along her years to begin questioning herself. Who am I? Do I have a destiny? What is my purpose? These are the big; the critical; questions an intelligent person asks. To which, of course, there are no answers. Those who make a pretence, and a living, at providing answers to these questions are charlatans, every one of them. Without my very personal experience, they have absolutely no right to offer (freely, or for a fee)any such answers: the rabbit they’re pulling out of the hat is a cartoon cut-out.
As a born seeker I’ve spent most of my life seeding those questions into the winds listening for answers. Without any significant result: the questions remain and every answer has been so much sand sifting through the fingers. I've watched those little piles of sand that formed under my fingers eroding away. Whatever was left was sand – not more sand, not less sand, not even the same sand - just sand.
After each inquiry, the equation still equalled zero. So year after year I wondered how the equation could be reworked so it would give some sort of graspable result, either positive or negative. But my mind cannot put together a new equation not based on my own personal investigation and experiences without invalidating the equation results. In other words, I can fabricate input that will give the results I'm looking for, but what would I have? A lie: self-delusion. I know "it" is there, I just can't grasp it in order to shape it and create my own destiny.
So I’m thinking that my own mind is faulty. There are gaps. There is data that could lead to developing a new understanding of the cosmos but I can’t bring up enough data in one effort to do the job and if I bring up some data, let it sit there and go look for other set of data to add to it, when I return the original set, or thought, is gone. So anyone can talk to me about "a bigger picture" but no one can ever again talk to me about "THE big picture" because that remains hidden. No one has it, or has seen it and one may as well refer to it as a mystery. But not a god, certainly not God. This mystery doesn't write books; doesn't boast of its accomplishments, doesn't need worshipping, doesn't save, condemn or even approve. It just is - and always out-of-reach; the proverbial pot of gold at the foot of the rainbow.
So it isn’t that I don’t admit to the existence of this mystery, that I am not aware of it; it’s that I cannot bring what I know of it together in a coherent and useable whole. So my life (and your life also) moves on in little jerks of understanding; of awareness, but never on a definitive smooth and reliable exponential upward curve into infinity. We were designed to experience life along that sort of curve but it seems obvious that we were pulled off our evolutionary path and sent down another path by some force we were not equipped to resist. I sense this, therefore I know this happened, and how would I know it if I hadn’t received glimpses of what was meant to be? I wasn’t initially “programmed stupid” and expected to remain stupid even if that is where I find myself now. Something in the past caused this.
When I attempt to work with the really great concepts without resorting to regurgitation of what dead smart guys have already stated as their own truth, however they attained their truth, I sense the universe, and more, much more, stirring within my mind urging me to know it; to connect with it and have an intelligent conversation with it. For example it will ask me to "explain" a fallen leaf. Pick it up and examine it, it prompts. What is its story? it asks. Well meant, but the leaf can’t impart much because my mind can only “see” the leaf based on my own biases. It’s all pigeon-hole analysis without any consensus or definite conclusion. I can see the leaf in a number of ways: as a biologist, a naturalist, a landscape artist, a philosopher, a painter, a musician, a poet, a physicist, a mathematician, and so on. But I cannot, try as I might, see the leaf in its entirety. I can’t read it. I can’t enter its personal story or share its odyssey. I can dissect it but I can’t understand it. I can't know it because I can’t see the whole of it, only some of its parts.
The same is true for everything else. If you have a lover you may think you are close to that person but in reality it all remains an extremely shallow and ephemeral feeling. Even if the relationship develops into a lifetime of togetherness, that lover will certainly remain a complete stranger outside and beyond the social and physical constraints or social shield developed to satisfy and protect certain expectations from such a relationship. Certainly, if I cannot answer the question, “Who am I?” then I cannot, ever, claim to know another; that would be a preposterous claim. I cannot know because I am basically "prevented" from experiencing wholeness in my own mind.
Over the millennia that man has developed his various social constructs called civilizations his shallow and volatile relationships have formed the backbone of such constructs. Is it any wonder the “man” species is forever at odds and at war with itself? How can there not be endless conflict when artificial and false surface relationships attempt to dictate the norm, leaving 99% of the necessary data unexplored and untested because it is inaccessible to most normal human minds?
We know, because we can see it and we interact with it daily, that man’s idea of relating socially is through invented power-invested, top-down totalitarian institutions. I usually mention three basic ones: religion, government and money. What man cannot do from within his own mind, he expects to be able to accomplish by maintaining gigantic social machinery that joins billions of defective minds together into a huge whole. That’s like taking a hospital full of patients, from the terminally ill to those in for the day, joining them all together and declaring them all fit because they are now “one.”
Seen from this perspective it should become obvious that it can’t work. Physician heal thyself and all that, but who makes the connection that there is no healing for the physician when they watch the news about markets; when they listen to a sermon; when they dutifully trudge to the polling station? No one does or surely they would stop in their tracks and give it up. But they don't give up their chasing after the wind. They continue to believe that if they just do it one more time; if a recession is avoided; if a decent president is elected; if enough people go to church, that the ever-present threat of catastrophe will be averted and a new age of peace and prosperity is inevitable. How can there be any improvement to man's condition without personal wholeness; when all of it hinges on a pathological dependency upon an artificial cow?
Of course that’s the nature of the creature. It seeks to make things better for itself but it fails to comprehend how doing the same thing over and over expecting different results is insane.
When I paddle away from here and up the River to those hidden places and spend days pondering life while surrounded by nature I get some pretty crazy ideas at times. But compared to what I have to listen to and watch among people, my ideas don’t seem so crazy after all. Crazy is here, not out there where man does not rule. Nature isn’t perfect, not by a long shot, but unlike man it isn’t self-destructive; it isn’t especially vicious, greedy, lustful, selfish, jealous, overtly bullying or genetically untruthful. Yes it takes advantage of situations and the weak or non-viable mutation is eliminated, but that’s nature’s machine preventing catastrophic future imbalances. I have seen cycles of life come and go because of changing weather patterns for example. I have observed the re-balancing. I have seen the fat and the lean years spelled out in fluctuating wildlife populations; in their ebb and flow. I have seen insect attacks killing thousands of acres of mature timber. I have seen storms and wild fires. All part of the process. Only man objects because man doesn’t, cannot, see the big picture. Nature understands both its immediate environment and assures its future by disciplining itself in time.
Not so among the man species. It doesn’t know how to bring balance to itself and even when it can see its current pattern of development bringing it closer and closer to the edge, it cannot stop itself or turn back. It is rife with unnatural forces preventing it from achieving collective common sense. Forces that scream against attempts to make changes to the status quo because such changes could cause a decline in corporate earnings for example; could compromise “national security” for another; could upset consumers - and we certainly can't afford that.
This faulty reasoning happens because man is led by a defective collective mind; a mind that cannot see its own legacy from its past performance; that cannot allow itself to openly and freely contemplate the narrowing options of its uncertain and unenviable future. It is a static mind completely caught up in denial. Man’s collective mind is made up of billions of dummied-down individual minds and as ‘they’ like to say, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Contrary to popular belief, joining billions of defective parts together doesn't make a machine that is more reliable than its individual parts.
As for me, the positive aspect of these mind perambulations is that I know that what I seek I will ultimately find and I will continue on, past these simple quests to greater ones. What is rather sad, in a way, is knowing that the answers I seek I will not “get” while I remain in this body. Nevertheless that realization isn’t going to prevent me from enjoying what remains to me of earth-time. I know the trick of holding on to simple natural (non-commercial) pleasures. But I can no longer be comfortable here; the knowledge I have acquired can only make me increasingly eager to discover and experience what comes next. I want my whole mind back, thank you very much.
Confucius is quoted as having said, "To know that we know what we know, and that we do not know what we do not know, that is true knowledge." I think he was close to the mark. I think he was referring to unique or individual empowerment, the kind that develops when the mind becomes totally devoid of belief systems. I think this is the point in "evolution" or new adaptation where the individual mind can begin to reconnect itself by rejecting whatever programming causes so much wishful and delusional thinking, and collective denial.

You are right. The natural world balances out. As Paul Ehrlich predicted 50 years ago, human population may suffer a tremendous die off like most other animals once we exceed our ability to sustain ourselves. The resulting balance will probably be a human population that is far more intelligent and well balanced than the one we have today.

I expect a lot of disagreement but we were made way smarter than we are now. When Adam and Eve were still in the Garden, not only were they supremely intelligent beings but they were gaining wisdom, knowledge and understanding from a superior Teacher, until they messed it up.
Love ya!
