Whenever I face the prospect of change or have to do something new, fear is the first emotion I experience.
There is something about human nature. We like to feel comfortable. Change is often unwelcome. Maybe because we are creatures of habit. Fear only prevents a person from reaching his potential.
I remember the first time I boarded an airplane. I was twenty- one years of age and flying to London. The flight would take 13 hours so imagine the ragged state my nerves were in. My body was rigid with fear. Every bump or jolt sent chills down my spine. Landing was the last straw for me. I was petrified. If you have ever experienced that moment then you know what I am talking about.
I expected the worse; I simply gave up. There was nothing I could do if we crashed landed or overran the landing strip. At that moment I promised myself that I would never fly again.
Today I have accumulated thousands of flier miles as a traveler Nurse. I traveled to places like East Africa, Hawaii, London, even an overnight in Moscow. The best part is, that I now enjoy flying. I did not allow fear to control me.
There are times we must face our fears. Don't give up because you are afraid. Try again and again and you would be surprised at how much you can achieve. I faced mine and changed my mindset from one of fear to ....I can do this. It does not mean that I am now fearless.
Overcoming fear is a work in action. Because of a changed mindset, Neil Armstrong walked on the moon. I am now a frequent flier. Be the next person to achieve your goals. Start with the small stuff. ...baby steps. Take the next Step
