I too have fallen at times into that group that sometimes listens to “doomsday prophesies”. An example of what I’m talking about took place just the past two weeks in which the end of the world was supposed to happen on Sept. 23^rd. Most of the time it is someone who sees something in Revelation or other Biblical passage that just seems to fit the times or events we see happening around us, and thinks “That is just what the Bible said would happen”.

If such speculation results in people of faith running to their Bible to confirm it, then there is some good that comes of it. I have to confess that I saw something this week that made ME sit up and re-read a certain passage in the Bible.

 There is a lot of apprehension about whether North Korea will cause us to be drawn into a military conflict in the near future. When a reporter approached “Mad Dog Mattison”, our top military leader, about that prospect, he replied that he wasn’t worried because we have something that will deal with that possibility. There have been rumors recently that the U. S. has a “secret weapon”. It supposedly is a satellite in orbit that can rain down metal “rods” on an enemy at speeds so high that it would be like a meteor or asteroid strike, deep into the earth. It has a name. It is called, “The Rod of God”, since it comes down from the heavens. It is supposed to be something like a “rail gun” that has been in development for some time now.

It struck me because of the name and also because I have seen that term used somewhere else.

I went to Revelation chapter 12 and re-read the passage concerning the “Women in the heavens” who is described as a “great Wonder” that will be seen near the time of tribulation. We supposedly had an event that fits that description last week when certain astronomical bodies lined up in such a way as to fulfill that prophesy, according to many Christians, exactly on Sept. 23^rd. As I read on to verse 5, I saw what I had remembered when I read about the new weapon. It says,

“And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron:”....

Maybe its just a coincidence, but this article I saw is the first time I have ever seen in print that one nation can control another nation with a metal “rod”.

This is probably just another of those “unfulfilled” prophesies that we will have to wait on but the signs certainly do match up with what was written. The “Woman” of the constellation Virgo did “give birth” in a metaphoric sense to the planet Jupiter, a male king in many cultures, exactly at the time of the beginning of the “Feast of Trumpets”, Sept. 23^rd. The passages don’t say that the world will end but that a ruler will control another nation with a “Rod of Iron” immediately after the “sign in the heavens”.

Can we take this seriously? Probably not, but one day we will see the beginning of Revelation 12 being fulfilled and many of us will say, “Why didn’t we see this coming”?
