There's a look that is apparent in the eyes of almost every author. A need that dwells inside longing to be set free. It's determination. Perseverance. All of those power words that accompany a strong desire and a want to succeed. Perhaps some want to become famous, while for many, it's a personal goal for which fame doesn't play a role.

It's the passion of writing. To some, it's a craft, a hobby. To others, it's a possible opportunity to make a living. It's an apple that hasn't yet been peeled to the core, but there are layers upon layers of self-discovery. Data and stories. Imagination and creativity that crave to be unleashed. Like a bird, it is waiting for the day to spread its wings and show the world what can be done. Writing is an art form. There are no two styles that are exactly alike. Each writer has a voice and each voice delivers a message in its very own way. Driving points across differently than any other writer. Utilizing tone and diction, obeying the rules and breaking the rules with their own personal style, their own unique flair. Their technique may appeal to the masses or capture the attention of a select few. Each author has their own favorite topic, their own area of expertise. Writing is the ability to take a small idea and develop it into something big; something that the world has never seen before. The sky is the proverbial limit, the clouds providing ample cover for the unveiling of the writer's voice. With each written word, a new message is conveyed, a new story told or a new piece of information divulged... and the author has come one step closer to fulfilling their need. Writing is many things to many people. It's not a craft molded from a cookie cutter. It's different things to different people. Each author has their reasons, each have their wants and each have a different story to tell. Writing isn't just words that lie flat on a page; it's life experiences and decades of imagination dancing copiously on a canvas.

You have covered the territory, touching on almost everything that affects a writer.

While I love new styles and cutting-edge techniques regarding writing, I find that novice writers may have a very good story to tell, but do not have the writing ability to tell it well. I am currently editing a book that could have a very good story. Unfortunately, the author is a very poor writer, and his research and understanding of circumstances behind the story is so dated and often incorrect, making the editing very difficult. In the three months I've worked on the book, I felt like giving up every day. But, being the writer that I am trying to be, I'm trying to make this sow's ear into a silk purse. Unfortunately, just making mechanical corrections is taking up all of my time so that am not able to improve the structural problems with the story on this go through. I dread having to go through the book one more time to make those changes.
