While your waiting for your heart to heal, get yourself busy doing some things. You may never get the opportunity to do it again.

Now is the time for you to accomplish the things you’ve always wanted to accomplish. This is your chance to implement your goals, and yes, you should have goals. This is your chance to do what you’ve always wanted to do, but never had the time, money, or other required resources. Now you have the chance to paint the house or paint that picture you’ve always wanted to paint, write that book you’ve always wanted to write, or take that trip you’ve always wanted to take. It doesn’t matter what project you choose, just get busy. You’ll probably never have the opportunity in your life again.

This is a day of new beginning. If you’ve always wanted to lose weight, this is the day you go out and buy your gym wear or pull out a t-shirt and sweat pants. This is the day you begin to buy and prepare nutritious foods, and let go of the chips, candy, and six-pack Pepsi. If you’ve always wanted to write a book, this is the day you purchase a new notebook, ink pen or open a new word document on your computer. Today you start. Get what you need if you have to go without something, borrow , or go for broke. Don’t worry. It will be a joy getting started, motivating you to continue.

The purpose of doing this is to redirect your focus, utilizing your energy on more important things other than sitting around crying, worrying yourself and other people. As long as you have time on your hands, you will find yourself worrying, crying, dwelling on your past, feeling sorry for yourself and replaying the painful incidents in your mind. All this leads to depression, oppression, and the inability to let go.

I wanted to stop hurting so bad; I was almost willing to do anything. I was always encouraged to date to allow the other person to help take a lot off my mind. I was told to open myself up more and establish friendships with different kids of men to assure that every need of my life would be provided for. I didn’t think that was the proper way to heal. I wanted to heal, dependent on God, not a man.

I knew my healing would come from God, so I made God my first priority. I faithfully prayed and read my Bible. I worshipped Him by singing to Him and fell on my knees every time I felt the need to cry. I called someone to talk when I was faced with the temptation to do something wrong or to vent. But when I felt pain or unforgiveness in my heart, I fell on my knees (every time) and cried out to God. I promised myself that no one would take His place.

Along with spending time with God, I also realized I had to have a life. So, to redirect my focus, I turned to challenging projects that required a lot of me in order to complete, such as writing. Hours would go by throughout my day as I researched, brainstorm, browse the Internet, and read the opinions of others in selective forums. It was a joy to learn new things, new people and new ideas for my writing.

Along with writing, I read a numerous of books on love and relationship, God, family, leadership, purpose, and myself. I spent a lot of time learning about who I was and what motivated me to do the things I did. Through God’s word, I was able to correct inward issues concerning me as I became aware of them. As a result, my healing process increased, enabling me to help others as I helped myself.

In addition to all that, I found the time to be with my teenagers and work as a legal secretary ten hours a day. Even though I worked full time, I continued to do what I should, such as praying to God (silently) on my job. I took myself out for dinner and ice cream, to the movies, bowling, the library and community events. I walked in parks, fellowshipped with my friends, traveled out of town, shopped with the kids and occasionally drank a glass of wine to celebrate myself.

You are responsible for where you end up in life. You cannot blame the person who wronged you for unfulfilled dreams. You are in control of your own destiny. Forgive and get busy. Get to the things that make you happy and be happy. This is your life.

There is something called occupational therapy which implies being busy in times of stress or to get busy. It is also useful for war returned soldiers. Once a desired course of action is chosen, it is best to get cracking.

Great advice for anyone...after all, none of us knows how much time we've got left.

You put your ideas across very well.

Great writing!

This is useful upbeat advice. There is such a close encounter with God during adversity, and the only way out of the discomfort is to listen and do, just like you say. I think we writers need to spend more time reading each other's work and affirm/validate it when it jives with our experience...or sometimes even speak up when we disagree (I seem to learn much from those I disagree with, even though it is a little on the painful side, growing from the experience!
