My advice to parents
Good afternoon dear friends and family,
I am glad to have you as wonderful people not just on my timeline but also in my lifetime.
Words of inspiration and thought come to my mind all the time and so it is with you reading this piece. but often times we are not listening to the explosive pollen grains of ideas that trudge the subconscious pathways of our hearts.
We are too busy with work, school, family, business and many more, that we often neglect the issues that really matter. we should always take the time to rest. just pack up that computer, iPhone, mac book, iPad and apple notebook somewhere.
Have time with your friends and family. don't become the get-inside personalty that our parents have groomed us to be. i always reminisce my days as a teenager, living in the GRA was like living in a separate planet from earth. Every activity is confined to the four walls of the compound. the major order my parents always barked out at me was "GET INSIDE AND READ YOUR BOOKS"
Yes!!! I am not saying that is wrong for them to do, but life is a mixture. think of white light, its a mixture of other colours. Consider the rainbow, its beauty is acquired from its variety of colours. Thats why children these days are frail at heart and feel insecure. They have only been exposed to the "GET INSIDE AND READ YOUR BOOK KIND OF LIFE" thereby killing the inner ionization energy of the child.
Parents!!! loosen up. Don't drive that child around in your fully air-conditioned car all the time. Let him feel the heat of the sun at times. you never know how priceless that is. Let him trek, it wont kill him, it would rather make him compassionate and feel the plight of his mates that have to make it to class by trekking long distances.
His brain is not for assimilation of books alone. In it is embedded a lot of practicals which includes, the destruction of faulty radios, dismantling of toys and all other forms of inquisitiveness. Give him room to discover new things, remember he is still young, so don't treat silly questions with a slap or a rude word. he actually doesn't know they are silly.
Give him or her the right to speak up their fears, daily experiences joys with other mates. Don't let your teenager feel like he or she wants to talk to a dragon whenever they need to talk to you. You are there as the parent to train them, and then leave them to apply what you have trained them to do. Don't harbor them.
At time let them do the laundry with bear hands and not the washing machine. Let them have a feel of the other side of life. Start with them on the elementary stage with a private school and give them the touch of a local secondary adventure. I bet such a child would thank you for this in future.
Let them hang out with friends. Be a friends to your children's friends. Don't give them that Iron Monster look that would make them hid their hideous acts from you, and thereby crippling a bright future..........
I can go on and on but..........
The thing is!!!!
You can't achieve these feats if you don't have one particular man in your life. His name is JESUS. He is the WAY, TRUTH and the LIFE. He will direct you in all your ways if only you can acknowledge HIM.
Remember!!!!
Love your wife too......pamper her tease her........don't treat her like a scumbag......correct her faults with a tickle........
wives!!!!
please do respect the man who does the above for you and many more. They are rare gems.
Have a lovely day!!!

Some real pearls of wisdom for parents these days. I have noticed that all of our smart devices for distraction have really cut into the time that families can speak to one another. And when they do, it may be criticism neglecting to do something while distracted. You're right about putting away those devices and getting out and enjoying the sun without their constant need.
I credit my parents with their openness that gave me freedom to explore and learn from my mistakes early so that I could take more responsibility for my life. But parents who are too concerned about security or safety and limit their children's experience are probably doing them harm like your article suggested.
