You are better at writing than you might think you are. Remember:
Good writers borrow.
Great writers steal.
Give it a new try.

Go Ahead - Publish Your Stuff

When I paid to publish my first book, my wife said I was crazy to believe it was that good, and crazier for spending hundreds of dollars for a book. She was right. But I was more right to believe in me enough to print the stuff and see it in book form. With a title of, Kicking Leaves Barefoot, from a time in my life when I did just that, it has sold some copies, but the pleasure of giving away over 300 books has been assuring by friends that I could write. Dollarwise, I'm even by not buying them other gifts.

Two years later I had more poems to publish, so I sent almost 100 poems to one of the publisher that do not charge the author a dime for printing and binding, but which sells book dealers, the author and others as many copies as wanted at a good price. There are better ones who treat your work with professionalism, catch your errors, and turn out your book with a color cover and sales arrangements with book stores. All of this is done without any, or a small amount of money paid by the author. Don't be put off by the words, "Vanity Press," for the process is more than that.

The second book, Windmills Beyond La Mancha, and now my new one, Ageless And Cool, are for sale online by two big book sellers; Amazon.com , and Barnes and Noble, which buy the books from the publisher, and the publisher pays me, the author, a royalty on each book sold. Keep your book small; 50-60 poems, so that the price will be modest to sell. Remember; there are good ones and several bad ones out there, so choose wisely, and read what they will do, and what they will not do for you.

Believe in yourself and your writing. If you want to publish, you can do it!

I must agree with you wholeheartedly. If you believe in yourself and your work all is possible. When I wrote my first book Red Soil, my family, friends, work mates etc all basically laughed at me and I am sure made rude comments about my plan, when it was published and even won award they stopped laughing and jumped on the band wagon. When I didn't get another book published (even though agian I had signed a contract for it) the smart remarks again started...one hit wonder etc. Now I have three books on the market and I am as we speak working on a forth that the publisher has expressed in seeing as soon as I finish. For a man with a Grade 9 Education and no formal or for that matter even informal lessons in writing I am doing okay because I believe I have stories to be told. Sorry I guess I am rambling but your story open up my thoughts...thanks William.
