Becoming a pilot is heart-pounding and a life-altering experience but a lot of hard work and dedication is needed if you want to ensure you’re a master at it. This is why flight planning is important, no matter what destination you’re heading in. Planning a flight is very crucial to any destination; it involves a cutthroat process of understanding and mapping out materials, alternate routes and the criteria in regards to the flight. Flying a plane requires a significant amount of concentration, more than you’d have on a car or bike. You need to be constantly 100% prepared and aware of the route you’re taking. All flights have an organised or well-structured plan that needs to maximize the safety of people on board but also making sure that you are reducing the costs at all times.
Flight planning needs to be taken so seriously because it can determine the safety of the trip- it is the first thing a pilot has to consider within his job. No matter if the flight is commercial or private, planning is one important factor in regards to the flight and the planning can consist of the type of weather, routes and fuel consumption. These points effectively work in such a way that can give the pilot the fastest yet safest routes available.
The benefit of flight planning
An effective flight plan will keep fuel consumption as low as possible therefore making it cost efficient, one of the main priorities is ensuring that the flight is safe and comfortable for your passengers. By minimising the risks and maximising the savings, flight planning software today is at its highest level and no matter the size of the company; all of them contain potential money saving opportunities. Because we are living in an age where technology is at its best; pilots no longer have to calculate the flights on their hands and in their brain- with the use of technology not only saves money but the main factor is it keeps the passengers saf!
Fuel
Fuel is a major factor when it comes to flight planning; most flights will carry out a sufficient amount of fuel to complete the schedule trip. A reserve quantity is also provided to ensure that the plane can go further than plan if any alternative routes are required. Fuel is to be calculated to the closest possible gallon, there are times when a different airport may be needed due to disruption and this can make an alternative landing destination which is quite regular with pilots.
This is why flight planning needs to be very precise and extremely detailed so you have an good indication on how much fuel you have for the journey, the weather conditions and the required flight time for the journey. If you don’t plan effectively, you are most likely to cause an accident and if anything were to happen on your flight, 9 times out 10 you will lose your job and there’s a possibility that you could really harm someone.
