The White Giraffe by Lauren St. John

I picked a copy of this book up at a school book sale. It is fantastic. From an English teacher's stand point, it has everything great fiction should have. From the family view, it really is a wholesome story with a deep meaningful lesson which will touch the heart of every reader.

This is the first work I have read by Lauren St. John and I am so impressed. Though the plot is a little familiar (misplaced child must find her purpose)the course which Lauren weaves to create the story is definitely a new angle. This will make the animal lover in you sing, and the enchanted dreamer in you awake. It will give your sense of justice a victorious thrump!

Martine is a young girl surviving the loss of her parents in the last place she could ever imagine, a game reserve in Africa. Slowly she learns to trust her grandmother and discover the secrets of the lives surrounding the Sawubona. As Martine explores her new world, she encounters magic in the most unexpected place and when she trusts herself enough to take a dangerous ride, she discovers the magic in herself too.

My copy also has some lit circle questions in the back, making it that much more appealing to the reader and teacher in me. I definitely recommend this book. It is amazing.
