Writing Erotica
About ten years ago my marriage broke up and I had great difficulty coming to terms with it. I decided that I would never put myself through that amount of pain again and so became celibate. Celibacy does not mean that you lose interest in sex; on the contrary like most things you can’t have you want it more. Never one for window shopping I’ve always found so called erotic photographs less than stimulating; so I began to read erotica.
Most of this I found boring, because as a romantic at heart, I wanted stories with a bit more reason for the sexual encounters. Such stories were few and far between.
I have written poetry since I can remember so I decided to try my hand at ‘Romantic Erotica’. I tried to add a storyline and feelings to my stories, which I posted on an erotic website. To my surprise the more I added, even at the expense of some sexual activity, the more people read them and the higher they scored them. Many generated emails from readers, which enabled me to gauge what they wanted. It was to be expected that some of these were abusive, but most were supportive and surprisingly (at least to me) many were from women. The site I use separates the votes between sexes so you can tell how many of each sex read your story and how they voted.
Because of the romantic nature of my better stories I expected women to prefer them but was very pleasantly surprised when the majority of male readers also preferred them. This culminated in my best story, so far, being the highest scoring story on the site for a period.
So men; own up to your romantic side and women there are many romantics out there; they just don’t like to admit to it.
