This was my introduction on Themestream to my column...Living Large...the positive side of Obesity!

Hello Everyone and Welcome to Living Large...My name is Isharra Jamari...I am a writer, artist, Mother and Grandmother. Most of all I am a full figure Goddess...Let me explain my body, as I see, it to you.I have a very youth face (people say I look 35-45...but I will turn 54 this year!) framed with natural hair that changes colors as much as Clairol has sales. I have lovely slim hands and fingers..(it must be all the typing!) Now to the hard part, here is were the road gets bumpy! I picture myself as a Chaka Khan body type (The way she is now!!! Yes she is full figured, you can't tell because of all of the extra hair.)My body, I call it a series of curves...there is nothing flat on me... I am a compilation of different parts inherited from my female ancestors. My upper arms (which I inherited from my father's mother) are full but amazing no cellulite...my shoulder are medium size, I can still see and feel bones in that area! (Whew!) My breast size, (another part of my father's mother) let's just say that they are ample...in the double width category. Then the dreaded stomach area (inherited from my mother)...its round...( Yes, I want a tummy tuck) I keep telling myself and God that if I ever made enough money to get it that I would be satisfied with everything else. My hips, thighs and buttocks ( Father's Mother again)...well that is something that I can only justify by saying that I am triple Sagittarius (rules hips and thighs)so that means that I have three other people's share! My problem is that I am short 5'1 and every angle that I turn to look at myself, I see curves. But I love me and I have no problem meeting and dating males. (I am currently on a break from dating) Menopause!!! Yes, Menopause...another issue, for another time.I am active, love playing tennis, jogging and riding bicycles...I dying to learn how to rollerblade...I heard its helps the butt size reduce quickly. Yes, I do all of these and I never lose anything, but my heart rate and breathing is excellent! So that means that I am healthy but according to society standards, I am obese. I must tell you that I have been overweight since childhood... I always had to shop in the chubby section. Having my children, just made me more curvy. I have been told by some of my friends from Nigeria that I would a queen over there...she said the moment I got off the plane, all mens eyes would be upon me...because the way that my butt would move in the dress. Wow!!!! too bad it doesn't happen like that here in America. Well, that's all for now from the Full Figure Goddess...read all of the other articles and I promise to keep it very interesting and something funny!

This is not only a wonderful read, but a testimony to your healthy self-esteem. It is always encouraging to encounter those who understand beyond the trivial. Good work!

This was wonderful and speaks to your self-esteem which is very healthy. God made us in a variety of shapes, sizes, etc. etc. It's time out for magazine models who are pencil thin and cause our young women to kill themselves. Spread the word...Healthy is in!!

Great job that should be published nationally.

"Love is every shade of the rainbow, and no color at all."--excerpt "Shades of The Rainbow" and it should apply even to myriad sizes and shapes of humanity. Beneath it all, we are of one blood and one race, everything else is unique. Wouldn't life be boring if there were nothing and no one unique? Keep working at your writing, Isharra. Helpful hint: check out "Writers' Seven Deadly Sins" citing why rejection slips are prolific and contracts are rare. The article can be found amidst my A/D webpages. Hope to hear from you sistah. Wonderful!!!!!!! More women should speak out. Instead of buying in to the latest trend to be a skeleton they should celebrate their curves. The truth is you just may not live longer being thin. Everyone has a time to go. If you're like me you'd rather have that lobster dinner with shrimp and enjoy it than to just have the package of crackers and a glass of water!

I recently heard from a man who's mother was obese therefore, he will never date an obese woman. Instead of having compassion and love in his heart he condems them. It's sick and sad! But this joker is single and will remain so hahahaha!! Meanwhile lucious ladies all around are finding true men to love and cherish them.

I wish I could have read your column in its entirety! A good introduction to what promises to be an upbeat, positive view.

You said, "according to society standards, I am obese." I've noticed that some tv commercials are now showcasing what they call 'large-sized' models... but these women are NOT what anyone would call fat, obese, or large. Society and its standards... phooey! Celebrate the curves! :)
