ACTUALLY...
I DON'T MIND GETTING 'SCREWED" ...
BUT ...
I LIKE TO GET "KISSED" FIRST !!!
Oh... the PIC ... look Closely ...
I Labeled it "CONFUSION CAR" ...
ALPHABET "SOUP" ?

Some time ago I posted a piece about Auto Manufacturers.
In it, I explained how They Purposely Confuse Buyers.
Just about every Brand does it ...
And on almost every Model They make.
Usually, on the Rear of the car, there are Two Letters,
Sometimes Three or more.
In my case, in November, 2010 I Test-Drove
A 2009 Ford Fusion, and liked it ...
However, the Saleswoman said the Manager figured
That it cost More than what I wanted.
So, they had another Ford Fusion 2007 that cost Less ...
I thought it was the Same Car,
With the Same Features, so I took the Deal ...
Hell... I didn't even Test-Drive the car!
Yeah ... I Know ... DUMB !
First Time in my Life!
Within a couple of days I realized that ...
Some Features, or Options were Missing.
There was No Digital Compass ...
No Ambient Temperature Read-Out ...
And a Few Others ...
WHY NOT ?
The 2009 Ford Fusion was the SEL Model ...
i.e. ... Fully Loaded ...
My 2007 Ford Fusion however was only a SE Model ...
DIFFERENT !
Now, let's Fast Forward to the Present ...
Last Saturday, March 8th, my Lady Friend Pat,
Purchased a Used Car for her Grand-Daughter ...
A 2000 Mazda Protege, 4D Sedan ...
She paid $3,000 ...
Was It Worth It ???
I went to Kelly BlueBook Value Site to Check ...
Guess What ...
2000 Mazda Proteges Came in Three Different Models ...
ALL 4 Door Sedans ...
DX Sedan 4D ...
LX Sedan 4D ...
ES Sedan 4D ...
Which Is Which ?
Which Is Worth More ?
Which Is Worth Less ?
Do You Know?
I Didn't !
HOW IN THE HELL COULD ANY HONEST CONSUMER KNOW ?
What does DX Mean? Could it be Deluxe?
How about LX ? Luxury ?
ES ? Economy Sedan ?
DUH ???
Each Model had 14 pages of Detail to Review ...
I had to Scroll to Page 8 of each to Find ...
The Suggested Retail Price !
"ALPHABET SOUP" ???
DX - Suggested Retail = $1,875.
LX - Suggested Retail = $2,375.
ES - Suggested Retail = $2,760.
Why Such Differences?
Both the DX and LX are 1.6 Liter Engines ...
The ES is 1.8 Liter ... Slightly Bigger!
Is .2 Liter Worth $885 More ?
All Three Quotes were Based on:
Mileage of 150,000 ...
And 5-Speed Manual Transmissions.
My Best Guess is that the ES Model has the Most Options ...
Ergo, the Higher Value ...
The Car Purchased has only 106,000 Miles ...
And an Automatic Transmission ...
BUT ...
I Still Don't Know Which Model It Is!
DID SHE GET A GOOD DEAL ?
OR ...
GET SCREWED ?
How Come the Federal Government Can:
Set Safety Standards ...
Set Emission Standards ...
Set Mileage Standards ...
BUT NOT MANUFACTURER IDENTIFICATION STANDARDS ?
Can You Just Imagine That IF Every Manufacturer
Of Every Model ...
HAD TO USE AN INDUSTRY-WIDE LETTERING SYSTEM ?
Like Maybe This:
TL = Top of The Line - Fully Loaded !
MR = Middle Range - Some Options Included !
CM = Cheapest Model - Least Value !
Caddies - Lincolns - Lexus's - Beamers ...
Toyotas - Hondas - Nissans - Kias ...
Fords - Chevies - Chryslers - Dodges ...
WHATEVERS ...
ALL LABELED THE SAME ... FAIRLY !!!
Each and Every Buyer Might Have a Better Chance ...
At ... NOT GETTING SCREWED !
CAVEAT EMPTOR ... BUYER BEWARE !
ALPHABET SOUP ?
IT ... SUCKS !!!
"Be Careful Out There!"

I've purchased more than one of those models. Also the insurance companies love this system too. Can you say hidden premiums? cuz p
I made the mistake of not liking the color of the first modified van, a 2008 Ford Windstar XL I bought by long distance (picture) and didn't get the HD package. That package would have come in very handy on trips later. On the 2006 Freestar SEL that replaced the 2008, I got everything making it, my hot Rod Lincoln! Those luxuries are worth it if you can't touch the controls.
Even car guys like me get confused with all the car speak.… Caveat emptor!

Love ya!

I so enjoy your rants. Rant on!
