You know ... those guys in the White hard-hats ...

Back in the 'good ole days' ...
In steel mills, factories, construction sites, road crews ...
The Supervisors, Leaders, or Bosses ... Only wore White hats ...
To distinguish them from the workers, or laborers ...
They had Blue, Red, Yellow, or Green ones!

But, Not Now!

Many times now, All the workers have White hats ...
I saw a road crew yesterday, where the Boss ...
The guy Without the shovel was sporting
A Cowboy hat ... and a bushy beard, like a Grizzly Bear!

Times ... they are a-changin'!

Once upon a time ...
The Bosses led by Example ...
Pitched in, and actually Helped get the job done ...
Today, they stand around with ...
Their Thumbs Up Their Rectums!

In olden days, in the Military ...

All the Officers ... Generals, Colonels, Captains, Lieutenants ...
Wore Bright, Shiny, Metal insignia pins ...
To distinguish them from the common soldiers ...
The NCO's - Non-Coms - Non-Commissioned Officers ...
Sergeants, Spec-4's, Corporals, Privates ...
The "Dog-Face' actual Workers ...

But, in Combat, they learned the Enemy ...
Could easily identify ... and Shoot the Bosses!

So, they rep[laced those Shiny Trinkets ...
With more subdued insignias ...
Gotta Protect the Bosses ... Don'cha know?

How about ... Business?

CEO'S - Chief Executive Officers ...
CFO's - Chief Financial Officers ...
Presidents - V.P.'s - Directors ...
Treasurers - Comptrollers - Controllers ...
Managers ... Leaders ... ALL BOSSES ...

In days of Yore ...
They actually did some Work!
But, Not No More!

They are all now 'Burdened' with ... PERKS!
Compensation Packages ... 'Parachute' and 'Umbrella' Plans ...
Stock Options ... Company LearJets ... Company Cars ...
Exorbitant Salaries ...

Even if the Company Loses Money! DUH ?

$ ... Millions - Tens of Millions - Hundreds of Millions - $
$ - Thousands of Millions - Billions - $

And Just Who Pays for All of This?
US ... WE THE SHEEPLE !!!

Tax 'Loopholes' ... Capital Gains Tax Avoidance ...
Lobbyists 'Buying Off' Congress Persons ...
'Insider Trading' ... Lack of Prosecution ...
And ... More ... More ... MORE!

Income and Earnings Inequality ...
Bosses being Paid ... 10 X, 20 X, 100 X, 200 X, 400 X ...
That Which The Actual Workers Make!
What a Country!

But ... What about Managers?

Although I included them above ...
Most Managers, especially Middle ones ...
Are Not Officers!
Not 'Blessed' with all those 'Perks' mentioned ...

Most of them are more like a 'Buffer Zone' ...
Between the 'Big Deal' - "My Shit Doesn't Stink" - Executives ...
And the Common Work Force ...
Those Who Actually Do the Work Necessary!

How do I know?

Personal Experience ... I spent 35 Years in Management ...
And Retired with ...
NUTTIN' HONEY'!

We will now conclude with what I believe is a True Story ...

Many years ago, a young Reporter was interviewing ...
General Dwight D. Eisenhower, a Five-Star General ...
And asked him "What is the Secret of Leadership?"

"Ike" supposedly reached in to a desk drawer ...
pulled out of piece of string and told the fellow ...
"Take two fingers and grab one end of the cord ...
and Push it" ... what happens?

It just wiggled precariously like a drunken Snake!

"Now ... Pull it!" what happens?"

It followed the fingers like an obedient Puppy Dog!

"Leaders LEAD by Example ... and Earn Respect ...
Rather than Pushing People like a Bad Manager!"

I personally adopted that Philosophy early in my career ...
And Never ever regretted it!

When my maintenance men Saw me down on my knees ...
Cleaning 'Dog-Crap' off a carpet ...
Tracked in the office by a Drunken Officer ...
They could never refuse in good conscience!

Mopping up Feces in a bathroom ...
From an over-flowed toilet ... Ditto!
Shoveling Snow from a Blizzard ... Ditto!
Sprinkling Salt on Icy Walkways ... Ditto!

I Never Asked Anyone To Do Anything ...
I Wouldn't Do Myself!

BOSSES ?

Lead by Example ... Earn Respect!
