So, here's something more to consider when creating a protagonist--what does her or she want from life? Actually, this isn't a bad question to ask yourself. A lot of us don't know and might be better able to attain our goals if we knew what they were. Maybe asking this question about your protagonist will help you in your own life. Since I'm writing mystery novels, I find that my protagonists just wants to be a force for order and justice in a chaoticworld. Oliver Redcastle, my protagonist in my historical mystery series, is trying to create a new life for himself but is constantly frusted by echoes from his violent past. Other protagonists may have more complicated goals--or sometimes ridiculously simple goalsl. Zeroing in on what a person really wants will help bring him or her to life in your imagination.
