A writer, and single mother shares her life as she yearns to make a positive difference in this world while touching others along the path! Every day I yearn to make a positive impact on the world around me. I work with differently abled adults who make each day both a challenge and a joy. I come home to raise my adopted son who also has Down syndrome, but makes me smile and count my blessings. I'm attending online college, and always hoping I'd find that one special guy who would keep his word and fix what is broken instead of looking for greener grass. I guess I feel we live in a throw away society where people do not keep their word, and I find this disheartening.
My hope is to make a positive difference, and I have a great appreciation for nature, romance, history, family, and the values we set for our children. Family is very important to me, and I really would like to start earning money doing what I love. I do have a young man who is going to need to be taken care of for the rest of his life, and I need to think about his future as well as my own. There is where I need to be a magician! (Smiling).
I'm currently taking classes in psychology and learning about stress and the impact on children. I love writing, so I think this is a good fit for me. I think I need psychology classes just to raise my disabled son. He's such a ham as he blurts out loudly, "Mom farted!" when I pull him out of the school van with a smile on my face. Our lives have become a myriad of jokes about farts and burps lately. He smiles from ear to ear and lights up making others laugh. I love his simple mind and his eyes that light up a room as he craves attention and laughter.
My son nearly died this past winter. You learn to appreciate the small things when you see so many around you facing death. I value every little good thing that comes along. I think every writer yearns for that break and recognition. I'm no different than anyone else, although people think I'm a saint because of what I do for a living. I just feel like I am giving back to the good Lord who gave me a family. I just wish I'd find that happily ever after that I feel like I've waited my whole life to find.
Today I posted three poems that I wrote while taking a writing class. I love the idea behind knights and chivalry or a love that lasts a lifetime. I also am a fan of artists, and am constantly reminded that it is up to us to choose how we paint each chapter of our lives. Believe in yourself! Be yourself and not what you think others want you to be! Live your life in living color and do it in such a way that people are wowed by who you are. You just never know who is watching you!
