For a list of my Bible-related book and CD reviews on amazon.com, please search for "Joan K. Snipes." There are so many Bible-related books to read that it can be overwhelming to decide where to begin. I have been greatly helped over the years by reading recommendations from authors and librarians.
An anotated bibliography by someone you respect is invaluable. One that I have been using for decades (I'm a slow reader!) is by Russell Robinson. It is in an appendix of his book, Teaching the Scriptures. The books are listed in 13 different categories, including Bible dictionaries, atlases, commentaries, and Bible study handbooks.
As I read books, I write brief reviews. Many of these reviews are archived in past issues of my e-newsletter, available here at authorsden.
Other book and CD reviews appear on www.amazon.com. One example is a children's picture book by Carole Armstrong entitled, Women of the Bible. Although this particular title is out of print, you can still find used copies at reasonable prices.
I occasionally review musical CDs as well, including the excellent "The Many Voices of One Nation Under God" published by Peter B. Allen.
In my effort to advance the cause of Bible literacy, I want to urge my readers to think of Bible-related books and CDs the next time they need to purchase a gift.
