The Promise

Dedicated to the Children!
My little angel, previous to this day, the day of your birth, in the illusion of sweet dreams, absorbed in the hazy mist that surrounded me, my fantasy took me to your world—heaven, the world of the child. As I reached through the hazy mist to take your hand, and bring you to my world—earth—a world of imperfection, each time our fingertips touched your image dissipated and you were gone.

I began to question, why? Why each time did you slip through my fingertips? I have waited for you all of my life, you my precious little girl.

Reality set in, and I realized that the imperfection of my world—earth—had little to offer. In the world you come from—heaven—the streets are golden, and the environment is one of purity, innocence, and love. In this world, the child is not only honored and respected, but also sacred. In my world the child lives within a dangerous environment. Child abuse, abduction, exploitation, and yes, even murder is a part of my world. It was in this moment that your father and I joined hands and made a promise to you.

Today with your father by our side, as I hold you in my arms for the first time, and realize that the fantasy of my dreams has become the reality of my life, I want you to know that we have not forgotten our promise. We promise to provide an environment that is not only filled with purity, innocence, and love, but also one that will always honor, respect, and hold you sacred within it. We vow to devote our life to making your childhood joyous. With our nurturing, protection, and love, we will prepare you for adult life, and understand that in the process we are responsible for building a foundation that must be strong enough to support a mentally healthy adult, who will be responsible and capable of creating the same caring environment for her children. This we do vow to you, the life of our life, our child.
