This is a short story I wrote over 10 years ago showing how children with special needs can give so much, even despite the hurdles they face. Happy Hump Day! I'm often asked to write articles and do interviews about SPD, mental illness and other special needs. I am, by far, an expert in any of these areas but I do have a parent's perspective due to what my kids went through, and currently going through, and can offer some sort of insight to other parents. When parents come forward and share their stories, they are helping others who may be experiencing similar struggles, but don't feel there are others who totally understand. Trust me, there are. And the more we advocate for our children, the more knowledge is out there for parents to research. Plus, in the end, as we advocate and teach others, our children are learning to advocate for themselves and that is the end goal. Today I am sharing a story I wrote over 10 years ago for an anthology about parents with special needs kids. It's all about one sweet boy who made a hurdle in my daughter's life a little easier to get over. He will be forever, in my eyes, our neighborhood Spiderman. ;) Enjoy and feel free to share your own insight.
