I often question whether being in the right place at the right time is foolish rheteric or scientific reality. Have you ever stood at a craps table and watched a streak run its course? I have and I find it absolutely amazing that a player can be at a craps table for half an hour throwing numbers without crapping out. In the world of gambling, it is common for players to "feel lucky," and bet accordingly. I am not a gambler but I have watched many others take advantage of a lucky streak. Some scientific minds would say "bah-humbug" to the idea and might argue that streaks are explainable events that occur on the bad side just as frequently as they might on the good side. Perhaps they are right, for not many talk about their losing streaks. I guess it's natural to play up one's winnings and downplay the losses. Still, it is hard to dispute the fact that some people seem to be consistent winners and others persistant losers. Perhaps there are other explanations that account for these happenings, like good money management and betting techniques or sound judgement. "Know when to hold em and know when to fold em," could be the name of the game. I guess I will never know because I'm too scared to find out.
