I must live in the best place on earth. Here in the southern most Cascade mountains (in Northern California) the temperature in in the high 70s, the sky is clear and there is just enough of a breeze to play gently with the trees.
As I sit here in my very favorite room (my backyard)I listen to birds talking with one another, the light rustling of leaves and, yes, the distant sound of someone mowing their lawn.
In my direct few, about 15 feet from me, is my hummingbird feeder. Apparently the first batch of "necter" I put out for these exquisite creatures was not to their liking because I never saw so much as one bird come to the feeder. But I've made an adjustment to my recipe and now I am entertained quite often by the tiny birds' antics.
I swear that this is the truth. The day I put out the new mixture of sugar and water the first hummingbird to sample the mixture took one sip, then flew directly toward me, stopped about two fee in front of my face and just hung there, gazing directly at me. No one is ever going to convince me that that bird was not trying to say, "It's about time! And, oh, yeah, thanks."
I've moved my office (two TV trays, my laptop and a fan) out here and find it to be the best posslible place to work. Who wouldn't?
