What do we hope to achieve when we reach out our tongues and loose an unkind word? Does the taste of such a construct burn so bitterly on the tongue that we are compelled to spit it else suffer the revulsion of nausea? And when it has flown (and landed), what say we then? Is there relief in the emptiness now filling our mouths? Is there solemnity in the measured response on our victim's face? Do we hope for a similar volley in response so that we may hasten more ugliness into our shared history?
We are capable of such beauty and all too often consumed with such pettiness.
