My son joined the Marines. It breaks my heart both from pride and fear. These are excerpts of his letters. I hope he lives longer than this collection. Dear Dad,
Almost three weeks here and finally I find time to keep up on writing.. I'm sory it took so long.
Our first week was just receiving, where we did nothing but collect and organise gear.
After that, we got out real DI's, and my platoon has been screwing up so our free time has been a little short.
Right now we do little besides drill,eat, PT and go to classes. We also do some martials arts training but not very often. This is first phase. They're just training us how to survive being recruits right now. Next we'll do confidence, fifle, stuff like that. I do enjoy pugil sticks. We get to beat up on each other.
A lot of the guys complain about the DI's. I don't mind them, they have a job to do. They'll yell less when they have less to yell about!
Mornings are kinda rough but I usually feel better when the sun comes up. At least afternoon chow makes the day feel easier.
