I grew up in a town fronting the North Sea during the World War II German occupation of Norway. Being a strategic town, our harbour was constantly subject to bomb raids by the British Lancasters. Our house was a beehive of fear and hysteria in our extended family, not the ideal way of growing up during your formative years. During the five years of occupation I must have cheated Death at least six times, being protected by a mysterious force. When the war ended three of us at the ages of 6 and 7 years walked into one of the unprotected German ammo depots and carted away guns and ammo to last us for years. I could take apart and put together Lugers, Walters, Mausers, and Sten-guns by the age of 7. The insanity of my childhood is covered in the book.
