Sunday, September 19th:
I awake with a terrible cold, make some coffee and have a long phone conversation with an old friend from college. He's married and his wife's family hails from Quincy. They are visiting right now but Red Line maintenance has the Braintree branch closed down and so we have to cancel our brunch plans. All for the best as I am drowning in mucous.
My nose finally clears up at about noonish and once I am feeling up to it I head downtown as originally planned, not for dim sum, but for South End Open Studios. I don't get to see as much as I would like but at least I fulfill my need to see other artists' works every week. As I am headed for the staircase of the Thayer Street studios a couple chases after me and one of them asks, "Are you in Cosmic Spelunker Theater?"
"Yes, I am..."
After a few questions and answers, they ask me for my autograph and move on. It's the first time I'm treated, not as an artist, or someone of interest, but as a celebrity-- an icon. It's fun, but I suppose if it happened ten times a day, I'd feel differently.
The couple quickly darts in the other direction and I move on to see painting, sculpture, photography, while nibbling on chocolate and cheese and nursing my nasty cold.
Monday, September 20th:
A day after being stopped to give my first autograph signing, I am emailed by a student at one of the local art schools who is taking a class in Performance; she decided to do her project on me. It's a busy week for me so we decide to conduct the interview by email.
I still spend $44 on my monthly subway pass like everyone else.
