Be careful what you ask for. What if the world--as we know it--suddenly changed? How would we react to the changes? If gas dropped to $1.49 9/10 tomorrow, would there be a glut of cars at each station waiting to get gas? What if the price of rice tumbled and poor countries could once again afford it and the fighting would stop? What if Bush were no longer in office? Or Lake Mead suddenly got back its some odd 3 billion gallons of water?
I, for one, would be in line at the service station filling up my truck. Because I have patience, I'd sit there until I could finally pull up to the pump and fill it to the brim. If I could buy a bag of rice for a reduced price, I might just buy two bags. Maybe three. When Bush is no longer in office, I may make a copy of the deed to my house and burn it as a silent gesture about how happy I'd be. If Lake Mead got its water back, Las Vegas would go absolutely wild.
There would be marches all over the country is there were price adjustments throughout the economy. I'm march in the parade, wouldn't you? Going green is a great idea but we're all going green on different levels that aren't going to make that much difference in global warming. Sure, we all need to do what we can, but we're not doing the right thing by acting as individuals; we need to act together on a LARGE scale. Maybe with Bush out of office we can.
