It's Thursday and the sun is shining! 6/18/2008 9:19:05 PM
Here in Coventry, UK, it's 6:30am and the sun is shining on the day of my first signing. I've been awake an hour already - too excited to go back to sleep. Sadly, we have to go to a funeral first (the mother of my partner's close friend). It will be a bit of a rush to get home, get changed, pick up the books and drive to Birmingham, but I'm sure it will all work out.
The bookshop is on Birmingham University campus and when I taught there I used to pop in 2 or 3 times a week to browse their shelves and displays. That's where I first discovered Alexander McCall Smith's books - at least a year before he became famous. I never saw a signing there, however. The manager has been really helpful and I hope for his sake as well as mine that a good number of people turn up, including some of my ex-colleagues and students, perhaps wondering what I've been up to over the last couple of years.
