Anatomy of a Cheater….part I 12/30/2007 7:27:06 PM
Cheating is no longer solely a "masculine" construct. Well, the New Year is almost here!! I wonder how many authors are out there who have built a career in giving advice about cheating.
Most of the articles posted here seem to have an "anti-male" flavor. I think that cheating and infidelity have no specific gender attached to them anymore. What used to be a sterotypically male behavior in the "Wally and June Cleaver" era cannot easily be characterized as such today.
As a counselor, I have worked with many clients who have been both the victims and perpetrators of infidelity. From my perspective, the "playing" field has become very well balanced. Hence, my impatience with articles and writing that perpetuates "cheating" as a masculine construct is wearing thin.
I believe that continuing to hide the fact that today's woman is equally as likely to participate in behaviors that betray trust is akin to burying one's head in the sand and longing for the "good ol' days" when you could leave the front door unlocked. I've never known what that was like...but I heard that those times were pretty good.
