What do you want?

One of the first lessons in Acting 101, which carries on through every role in a performer’s life, is “Motivation.” As in, “What does my character want?” Love? Wealth? Power? Escape from a bad situation? Survival? Reaching a level of supreme spirituality? The list is endless and important when one is bringing a character to life and making an audience believe that person is real.
And it’s a question I wish everyone who follows this administration should ask. (Actually, it’s a question we all should ask but this isn’t a philosophical post, it’s political, so no deep delving right now!) Donald J.Trump and his Cabinet and half the Congress and more than half of SCOTUS seem only to want ultimate power and control, and obscenely extreme wealth. Things most of us will never have and most of us actually don’t want. Especially, if you believe in an afterlife, the kind of power and wealth on earth these folks crave seem pretty ridiculous.
But this question is for the ordinary voter. The person just out there, trying to provide for themselves and often a family. “What do YOU want? What makes you happy?”
Does it make you happy to see children separated from their families?
Does it make you happy when a man or woman is shot and killed because of a “mistake?”
Are you happy to hear that three more American military personnel were killed in a war no one really has explained happened?
Were you happy when those school children in Iran were bombed at their desks?
Are you happy when you try to go to a hospital and are told budget cuts have shut it down?
Are you happy to get a bill from a hospital that is NOT shut down and realize your wage won’t begin to cover it?
Do you like knowing that lost benefits in USAID are responsible for the deaths of thousands of children?
Do you like swearing allegiance to a man with 34 felony convictions?
Do you like swearing allegiance to a man who boasts about abusing women?
Do you like swearing allegiance to a man who openly accepts bribes?
Do you really believe Donald Trump is innocent of the Epstein charges?
Are you happy knowing that a drunken man wants to pump testosterone drugs into your son’s system, which could result in infertility and worse?
Do you enjoy going to the grocery store and paying double what you paid last year? (Same with filling up your car?)
Do you really believe that “illegals” are stealing your job?
Do you WANT to go pick berries and avocados in 110 degree heat?
Do you really believe the world will somehow come to an end if a trans-gendered teenager uses the same restroom you do?
Do you really believe the world will end if you live next door to a family that’s a different “color” than you?
Sadly, there are MANY more questions.
In the end, everyone needs to be a good actor and ask,
WHAT DO YOU REALLY WANT?
