When you were younger, did you remember your parents sitting you down and teaching you things? I really don't remember much of that. Therefore, daily, I am determined to take the time to teach my children life's lessons.
Lesson #1:
My daughter was eating her dinner and I told her to be careful because I know kids can be clumsy. Needless to say, she spilled her food. I immediately snapped at her and told her to pick up her food and eat it. I stopped myself and thought, "That's not how God wants me to treat my children." So I went to my daughter who was feeling bad, took her plate, dumped it in the trash, washed out the plate, and gave her some more food. I thought again, "I need to treat her the way God wants me to treat her. I wouldn't want God to treat me like that! She is not a dog, so she will not eat food that was on the floor."
Hopefully my daughter learned a lesson. I hoped she learned about mercy and forgiveness. Her mother showed her mercy so in the future she will know to show mercy to others.
Ps. I just read this blog to my daughter. She said she remembered that day, then I asked her to replayed that event for me. I'm glad she remembered!
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails" (I Corinthians 13: 4-8).
