Sculpting the Heart by Joyce White
10/19/2008 3:06:17 PM

My book Sculpting the Heart is about more than more than just scribbling a stick figure in boredom to passing time. It can give you a window into healing therapy when you're depressed, full of anxiety or sad.
I am known as Winged for Art Therapy on the blogging circuit at Blogit.com. I've spent my life searching for some kind of balance between joy and sadness. I've heard the key to happiness is having dreams; the key to success is making them come true. Sculpting our heart with dreams is good as medicine for us. My book will help you search for your own divine gifts. Life is not easy for any of us. We must try many ways to improve our lot in life. This is how we were designed, to be curious, adventurous and never satisfied. I've come to realize if we work hard and believe in God, ourselves and our special purpose, we can become that special person we always wanted to be. One of my favorite quotes is by James Allen, "It only takes one person to change your life - YOU." It is not what we read, but what we remember and try that makes us learned. It is not what we intend to do but what we do that makes us useful. Many of us are heavy ladened with desire to make new things familiar and familiar things new. Expressing ourselves creatively in words, photographs, clay, and/or any other way is like giving ourselves a hug when we need it the most. In this day and age, we need as many hugs as we can get. Even though all we do is not golden, it feels golden to share our natural gifts with others. For all of you who say you can't draw a straight line, try doodling and scribbling on a piece of paper instead. Any toddler can do this! Look out, if you're smiling, you're probably having fun just like the rest of us. You don't have to sell yourself to be an artist. We don't have to sell our books to be writers. If you want to feel special and learn how to find and read your soul's messages, follow me into the land of Winged and see how contagious a creative thought and/or smile can be. With "Sculpting the Heart," you can become that special self you were always meant to be! Art Therapy is when pictures speak louder than words. Draw yourself. What color are you today?

Most of us are geared to the spoken word but it is images that we have the most fun with. Even tramatized children can draw their pain and anxiety. Talking is fine for those who are articulate and unafraid to express themselves. When those like me who suffer from depression and anxiety, our tongues become our worst enemies. We have trouble talking about our emotions, become confused and say all the wrong things. Art may be the only true way to communicate for some of us. I was mostly tongue tied when I was young. It was only when I began writing that I first learned I can express myself so much better. It surprised me that I had a talent for writing. Nobody encourages a dumb child that cannot verbally express herself. Art Therapy has brought out in the light of us who thought ourselves inhibited and useless. I want to encourage and brighten the world of those who lived like me in a box with no communicable skills for success.

Art Therapists are not concerned with training budding Rembrandts but are concerned with helping the troubled express and discuss their inner turmoil. I am not a doctor, I write from experience which is the best way. My book can introduce others to news ways of communicating.
