Ernie Adla Street people in every city in the world consist of the drug addicted, the mentally ill, the homeless, the lost people of our society.
I previously held a pious, self-righteous, negative view of these people.
I avoided them on the street, was fearful to make eye-contact.
Patrick gave me knowledge, statistics, facts and a new awareness, where before I was ignorant.
The "other side." All topics have two sides.
Patrick has himself walked both sides.....read his book, "The Peaceful Warrior: Memoirs of a Damaged Mind and Soul." his very own poignant story.
Patrick has opened my mind and changed my mind with his passionate and forceful account of the street people in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. But this story is not a Victoria story, it is being played out in every city of the globe. This is a global issue.
The fields of advertising and education use the power of repetition in making information stick, and bringing about behaviour change. Patrick deftly uses it in this book.
From avoidance, fear and judgement his book has moved me to understanding, acceptance and wanting to make my own small contribution to this plight on society. I have become an activist in the cause.
