How sad is it that we live in a world that can't keep our attention: especially in this age of the internet, fast food, and instant gratification. Of course, those are the very things that create our boredom. When we can watch every one of our favorite movies on demand, then what? When we can drive through and eat our favorite meals every day, then what? Human nature isn't satisfied with yesterday's reality. It is build into us to ever seek bigger and better things. The reason man has finally been able to explore the cosmos is because when we put our mind to it, nothing is impossible for us. But once we explore the cosmos, then what? Our emotions, our desires, our curiosities have been so saturated with experiences and achievements that we can't seem to sustain any passion or drive for much of anything anymore. Let me suggest a road, perhaps less traveled, that could just be the cure for the boredom with the everydayness of life with which we've been struggling. Trade in some of the time spent in the kingdoms of this world for more time in the Kingdom of God. Seriously, I am not trying to sound preachy right now. Sometimes, I just think we forget about who we are in Christ! Seems like we don't always consider that we are Ambassadors for the Kingdom of our God! We need to steal back from the enemy some of the hours he has secreted away from us. Trying to keep up with the pace this world sets for us is causing us to drift slowly away from your purpose. A people without a purpose, without a vision, become lost, passionless, and yes, bored! In the days building up to D-Day in World War 2, when the troops were waiting day after day after day to make that historic landing, the soldiers were going crazy with all the training and drills. They had been trained, receiving constant instruction concerning every possible maneuver or outcome. Waiting to fulfill their purpose was excruciating. They were soldiers. Soldiers fight! Who would want to be on a football team if he only rode the bench every game. The point is to get into the game. It is time for some of us to get into the Kingdom battle! We are soldiers in the army of our Lord, and I dare say that most of us have been training and listening to instruction long enough. When we do what we are called to do, we are not bored. A soldier isn't bored when his weapon is trained on the enemy and bullets are screaming by his head! The football player isn't bored once the ball is in play! Get involved! First of all, spend time in prayer and in Bible reading/discussion. Then gather with other Ambassadors to find ways to reach out to the lost sheep of the kingdoms of this world. A child of God is re-born to spread the testimony of our Lord, Jesus Christ. If we never actually involve ourselves in the mission, no wonder we get bored.
