And Sheep In Wolves' Clothing

Jason Williams pointed out to me that in my last Daily Bread that I begin the devotion by saying my little catch phrase backwards. Instead of saying "wolves in sheep's clothing," which is how I titled it on Facebook, I said "sheep in wolves' clothing." That was funny. It reminded me of a sermon I had entitled that way concerning worldliness in the church. In fact, in these last days, the church is
getting worldly and the world is getting churchy. Most people can hardly tell the difference between the sacred and the secular. Some get just as much or more passion for the symbols of America, favorite football teams, or family traditions than they do for the things of the Kingdom of God. We are all proud to be Americans, but have you ever wondered why we snap to attention with our hands over our hearts when we pledge allegiance to the flag or sing the "Star Spangled Banner" but muddle through choruses of "At The Cross" and "Oh The Blood of Jesus," shuffling our feet as we glance at our watch, wondering just how much longer this song service can go? I am not saying we should not show proper respect when respect is do, but I am saying that the Kingdoms of this world do a better job teaching their children to respect them that we do teaching our own to respect the Cross and the Blood of Jesus. We are too involved in the culture: too interested in the distractions of this world. We purchase outrageously expensive clothing and shoes so that our children can "fit in" with the world. We want all of the new technology available so we don't miss out on anything. Many times, we look like the world, act like the world, and want the things of the world so much we forget our distinctions. We forget we are aliens and strangers in this world: Ambassadors of another Kingdom. Folks, if we can't tell the difference between us and them, how will they ever possibly notice it themselves. Why do the sheep of the Good Shepherd so want to dress up like wolves? Anyway, ya'll can blame Brother Jason for this little sermon. Ha-Ha. Love you all.
