2 Billion people on earth bought an ebook in 2013.
For 2014, collaboration with the automobile industry is leaning towards incorporating applications in cars that will read an ebook to you even as you drive. Today is January 24th and methinks it’s a good time to look forward into the book business crystal ball, even as we look back in the rear view mirror of 2013.
Out of 7 Billion people on earth, 1.5 Billion bought a hard copy book in 2013. When we shift gears to ebooks, records show that 2 Billion people on earth bought an ebook in 2013. From all accounts, this is a very significant trend.
These priorities aren’t new — in fact, we’ve been driving toward them for some time. That’s because we’ve always expected that our industry would become increasingly competitive, and it has, and because we believe we are still very early in our industry’s long-term growth curve for electronic transactions, we must embrace the likely hood of selling more books the E-way because it is faster, cheaper and most convenient.
Things are moving quickly and by 2020 our industry will be radically different. It will be increasingly mobile — with customers, content owners and apps developers all looking for providers who can deliver ubiquitous, global connectivity. People will neither know nor care if they’re on a fixed or wireless connection. All that will matter is that the connection is ultra-fast and secure, with instant access to all their content through the cloud. Finally, they’ll expect every aspect of our books to come together simply and conveniently.
So, our top priorities should be about leading in this new world, and delivering for our customers. Effortless Customer Experience:
At the present time, we live in a world where over 50% of customer interactions are digital. Imagine by 2020, mobile first initiatives will continue to drive how we go to market and operate even for big ticket items like cars and homes not to talk about the light weight goods such as books dear to our very own hearts.
Advancing our Network with special emphasis on download speeds will be a priority in-order to remain competitive. This is the foundation for our future.
Because of expanded network capabilities, Ultra-Fast IP processes and strategic planning, companies like Amazon were able to laugh all the way to the bank in 2013.
The good news is, as Amazon continues to do well, therein lies the live line for smaller book outlets in 2014.
Let’s make 2014 a breakthrough year by continuing the amazing trend of writing great books that keep our readers coming back electronically or otherwise.
