Intimate, yet familiar...
I am going to use the Lord’s Prayer as my "attitude resource" this week - not just to pray out of memory but to take time to really reflect on its implications for my daily journey.
What an unbelievable statement on the part of Jesus -not "my Father", but "OUR FATHER.”
We are acknowledged as part of the family of God. There is Holiness about who we are and what we do. Humbling.
In the Lord's Prayer we find a similar word of dedication: "Thy kingdom come, Thy Will be done."
Clearly his agenda was to seek each day the leading of what he felt and experienced as God's Will.
"Give us this day our daily bread."
More than a request for food to eat, rather food for the soul.
Israel had manna daily as a reminder God was walking hand and hand with them on their journey to the Promised Land.
"Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us."
Forgiveness is central to the very nature of God's love and grace.
The challenge for us each day is to make the spirit of forgiveness mutual -as we receive forgiveness we extend forgiveness. Love is at the heart of our relationships.
"For THINE is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory FOREVER."
We often hear "there has to be something more fulfilling than what we are experiencing today”.
If we believe what we pray, we are putting our faith in a better kind of world; if God's Will is pursued.
Even more, "forever" means we look hopefully to the future.
