Do we do it His way or ours?
The word for today: conscience, as in let your conscience be your guide.
I was raised on the idea that I should pay attention and listen to my conscience. My parents, the church, school all affirmed the importance of a clear conscience.
The problem; little was said about the source of conscience.
I have come to believe that there are at least two kinds of consciences. What I would call a world view conscience, and a God centered conscience.
By the world view, we can be assured of a clear conscience if the end is accomplished. The end justifies the means.
So in the political arena, we throw out all kinds of stuff, true or false, in order to gain support. And it’s presumably ok to ruin reputations, build false agendas, etc. In light of these actions is a clear conscience possible?
I personally don't think so.
My view of the God centered conscience calls for me to always ask - what does Gods truth and love in Jesus expect of me, regardless of the world view; a more difficult but preferred path.
I believe our very being has within it an understanding of right and wrong, and it is rooted in our relationship with God as children of God.
My conscience calls for me to ask, “What does the God I see in Jesus expect of me?”
