Is it just me, or have you also noticed “radio silence” from all presidential candidates on this topic?
You continually see/hear these candidates courting seniors, but nothing on this issue that is affecting, or, will soon affect so many seniors.
Seniors are living and working longer, but aren’t looking at payment for eldercare.
Many women of our generation were stay-at-home mothers who relied on husband’s pension/social security, and viola, – chronic debilitating medical conditions.
Unfortunately, some of these horrendous illnesses could necessitate placement in an assisted living facility.
In some cases, spouses you thought would be there “Til death do us part” said instead, “I’m divorcing you.”
Hopefully these spouses were married for at least ten years to help with prohibitive healthcare costs when placed in this healthcare environment. If family members have children or grandchildren, good-luck with them for financial assistance during your much needed medical care.
What most persons don’t realize is that a great majority of services in assisted living are itemized. These costs aren’t fully funded by your social security, or pension, and you can forget Medicaid being there for you, because a great majority of assisted living facilities are private pay.
Have you also noticed an increase in the number of elderly murder/suicides?
After investigations of these deaths, were they related to chronic medical conditions, or lack of funds for institutional care?
Do you feel that Presidential candidates should address “eldercare?”
Do you think this issue is important enough for all presidential candidates to address?
Should they introduce a comprehensive policy for addressing eldercare in America, starting immediately for your vote?
