With regard to the upcoming U.S. Presidential elections, neither major candidate is particularly appealing to me. My political convictions are solidly in line with Libertarian principles…as long as people don’t seek to harm others, they should be allowed to spend their hard earned money and live their lives as they see fit. The government’s responsibilities are to defend the shores (the shores of America; not the shores of Japan, Germany, Syria, Iraq, etc.), build interstate roads and take care of those people who are genuinely unable to take care of themselves. Otherwise, the only government hand-out I support is the government’s hand out of my pocket. Unfortunately, even this year’s Libertarian candidate promotes policies that meddle into the private affaires of private citizens. The country is clearly veering to the Left. Liberals and Libertarians are both concerned with alleviating the problems that afflict society. The difference is that Liberals want to do it with other people’s money…empower an already bloated, incompetent and wasteful government to tax the hell out of financially successful, job creating businesses & individuals. How many celebrated Hollywood stars, for example, have donated a portion of their tens of millions to assist those less fortunate than themselves? Compare their generosity to those on the Right side of the political spectrum. Political conservatives are those who subscribe to Jefferson’s edict that, “The government which governs least; governs best”.  You want to help your neighbors, then you help them. And, speaking from experience, acts of kindness don’t always require a lot of money. Equally noteworthy is the fact that those acts of kindness provide gratification that no amount of money can buy.

So, on to Trump…

He is widely acclaimed for the success of his developments and I believe that acclaim is justified. However, it is not in reference to his casinos, hotels, golf courses, luxury resorts and so on. To my mind, Trump’s greatest developments are his children. Although I’ve never met them, from what I’ve gleaned watching & listening to them on TV, they all seem to be intelligent, well spoken, well-mannered and lovingly devoted to their father. There is no more worthy tribute than a man could hope for than to have raised children as his seem to be. He accuses Hillary of playing the “woman card” just as Obama so blatantly had his minions play the “race card” 8 years ago. The irony is that Trump has a much more compelling “woman card” up his sleeve. If and when his children are released upon the campaign trail, women will rally to his candidacy because women who love their children appreciate the merits of a good father. That should especially apply to Black women abandoned by their husbands and forced to raise the children as single parents. Solid and virtuous two-parent families are the bedrock upon which every viable society must depend. Rampant crime is clearly one of the most noteworthy calamities which afflict society when that bedrock starts to fracture. The U.S. may well need more civilian, police, and government oversight committees to monitor social ills but, the most vital oversight committee consists of a mother & father who lovingly care for their children, teach them right from wrong and instill in them the discipline to behave accordingly.
