How do you react when a friend you know and respect has a different view from yours on current events in the nation, and this view makes you feel labeled as the exact opposite of your life-long belief. Dear ----,
That post against Hillary Clinton someone sent you did it for me as far as political posts go on FB. It was obscene and insane. So I won't say more on FB about politics. One's identity is not found in politics or should not be. We are children of God. The severe backlash from the left is frightening. If there is a remote possibility they could get rid of Trump like this, our country would surely go the way of a banana republic and our constitution nullified; maybe even a revolution.
I want you to know this is nothing personal and never has been; nothing so inane as politics can change my relationship with friends. But when Trump voters (the lesser of the evils to me) are accused of being "bigots" and believing fake news, that sounds like an insult to all of them--the deplorables as Hillary called them.
I don't like being profiled any more than a Black man driving and being stopped by police. I try desperately not to attack others but attempt to read what I wrote as if I were getting it and how I would feel.
BTW Fox news investigated the sex trafficking rumor to its beginning and how it victimized an innocent restaurant keeper. No other station did that. I have found them to be honest and most commentators give the opposition a chance to speak. The other media have harassed Trump and everything he does. I hate to see what the future holds with the left doing everything possible to make him fail. This is not the America I know. I do watch C-Span but find the others too disturbing. I go to them to hear the other side, but have to give up. Lately some occasionally follow Fox with pros and cons.
At one time Trump made me cringe, but I saw the reaction and fearmongering by the left and became supporter. I wish someone would tell me what he said to make them think he is racist--especially against African-Americans. His solutions are sound. No president in history has sought to better the situation of the urban poor--they only throw money at them as band-aids, not solutions. The same goes for education with no good alternatives in poor areas but the best where the rich live. And how many grocery stores are in poor areas? And the rural poor are even more neglected--their jobs stolen from them before alternatives are offered.
Trump's border comment made at the beginning of the primaries, was unfortunate, yet we know what he meant. We live in a nation as Ellen White said would happen where lawlessness is rampant, and I do believe close to the end. People come over the border with drugs that kill our citizens through OD or suicide and they cost us billions in rehab, and no one seems to care. Little children are abused by criminals who take money to get them here, and we let it continue. This is such a giant problem of suffering, and I can't understand why it isn't stopped. Many are evil --our immigrant friends (of whom we have many) from El Salvador tell us the citizens don't want these criminals back in El Salvador "except in a box". I think you have no idea of the extent of this problem. It has to be taken care of by their country and they do nothing. I saw an LA Times article about poor Mexicans trying to get their homes back from thugs and no help--no police--nothing to stop the criminals..
I was disturbed when celebrities claimed to be moral by standing up against Trump's election. Can you imagine these people claiming morality when their films and actions are a root cause of the nation's degradation into immorality and lawlessness? They live in luxury and claim to be concerned for the poor. We live in a day when love means hate, moral means immoral, right means wrong. racism means an excuse to hate those who disagree with you.
Now I open my Adventist Today on-line tonight and see a man writing in his blog with all its "religious" verbage::He's probably a pastor!:
This mantra of “Make America Great Again’ and the racist and bigoted rhetoric that goes along with it seems to have given rise to outlandish outbursts of racism and bigotry. This bigotry calls us to reaffirm our commitment to justice, equality and freedom for all mankind.
This sort of rhetoric is behind the division and hatred of the president-elect. I heard it from Hillary over and over again during the election. I say it has nothing to do with race. Where has Trump ever indicated racism? What drives this anger? The writer goes on with a couple of stories of "white" people verbally attacking others. Of course, he is going to hear them, because it will come from those who know him and his views. We see just as much on the other side as when a group pulled a white man out of his car and beat him up because he voted for Trump. Our country is so divided, and it did not start with the election. It was getting worse before and it was Hillary who introduced it in the election and Trump who said things that could be easily misunderstood and she jumped on it. She was already using women (with a husband like hers!) And anyone who thinks presidents of the past didn't talk raunchy, and many were adulterers in addition, is blind. They just didn't have someone accidentally taping them.
Has all our work in the 60s come to naught? We seem to be back where we were before in public rhetoric. I voted for Obama the first time because he was Black and promised to bring us together (not really an American Black because he had no growing-up experience like that of American Blacks as did Ben Carson who showed the lie in telling people they were poor and couldn't make it in society).
Well Obama made remarks that set Black against White. He appears to be an elitist schooled in the liberal universities that are brain-washing our kids today. Elitists by definition are educated and rich; they don't do physical labor, yet say they stand for the poor! We are divided between workers and elitists at this point, not color. Yet I like Obama as a person, and I don't question his Christianity, just his ideology. He stood tall tonight in taking some responsibility for Syria.
I don't care if anyone is Democratic or of the Green party. That doesn't make one an enemy. But the left is trying to make enemies of all of us--even pitting family members against each other. They have dug up and brought to life the thousand or so corpses of the KKK and point to them as representing our president-elect. They have called him every possible name one can think of. There is an old anarchist method that says "divide and conquer." And that seems to be the agenda.
I think it is important to talk about these things. It's true that many Americans have been profiled as they ride in their cars and are stopped by police--a situation that should have been resolved with training. I resent being stereo typed "racist" when I don't agree with the president or I vote Trump. Actually the word "bigot" is misused, because it means to be intolerant of other views and does not have to do with race. There are many bigots out there on both sides.
I guess this is long, but I like to write out my thoughts, and you didn't understand why I was saddened. Unfortunately that has increased after watching the destruction of Aleppo and the Muslim "white hats" risking their lives to uncover civilians buried in the ruble. With only a hand or arm or hair showing, they run in after the collapse of buildings and rescue who they can. They are also targeted by the enemy. Now more than half a million lost. I am ashamed of my country for not helping when so much could have been avoided. It's a holocaust. Yet a certain lady encouraged taking out the Libyan president after he had already softened his stance..
I pray you won't be angry at me for expressing my stance. But I also look at facts and want to be heard but without alienating you or anyone. I only want people to know there is another legitimate way of seeing things without striking at one's core values--in my case equality of races and even of LGBT people.
