How sanitizers may play a role in ecosystems While sanitizers may play an important role in limiting the the spread of Covid19 infections they may have significant implications for ecosystems. I'm only going to mention 2 of the many here.
1) Waterways. Much of the water we use is channelled to waterways that lead to the open ocean, freshwater rivers,inland lakes and ponds. All of them have ecosystems filled with organisms that are ultimately supposed to be beneficial to our environment and to all organisms. Unfortunately pollution in many of these water systems has become a fact of life. When the chemicals from sanitizer products is added to the water we dispose it adds to the problem. Many of the primary organisms (bacteria, etc) are destroyed and affect the organisms that depend on them and the water systems they live in. It may take a long time for these water systems to recover after the Covid19 threat disappears. However it is likely that human habits will prevail among a percentage of people and organizations and sanitizer use will be higher than it was before Covid19.
2) Skin on our hands. Our skin is a very complex organ. We have good bacteria among the flora on our skin for it to remain healthy. Sanitizer chemicals are indiscriminate in killing "germs" and much of our skin's protection could be compromised.
I'm not suggesting that we discontinue our use of sanitizers which may be very important to stopping the spread of Covid19 infections. My points of view here are only for awareness.
