Children Should be the Priority

It’s not a good time to be a child in America.
Our country is ruled by an entire administration that is fiercely protecting countless numbers of unknown pedophiles while offering cushy changes in residency for convicted pedophiles.
School shootings…JUST in 2025…sit down for this one…90 incidents of gunfire on school grounds in 2025.
29 deaths and 69 injuries according to ABC News (as of three weeks ago.) Take a moment and read that again. If you’re not shocked and horrified, you need to do a little self-searching as to where you’ve mislaid your heart.
Vaccines, at least in the state of Florida, will no longer be mandatory for children in public schools. (Since school has just started there are no stats yet as to how this is going to affect those wonderful diseases that we all believed were obsolete for the last 50 years or so, including smallpox and polio. Stay tuned.)
Several red states, led again by Florida, are working on changing child labor laws so we can go back to Dickensian times and let those little ruffians work long hours before and after school and on weekends. Well, heck, somebody has to earn a living to pay for the spikes in groceries, right?
The Big Ugly Bill will kill off SNAP programs and Medicaid, impacting children, but hey! What child needs lunch or breakfast if it impacts a Congressman’s ability to buy another yacht or vacation home?
Jeanine Pirro wants to prosecute juvenile offenders as adults... as young as 12 years old. I’ve taught 12 year-old kids. Believe me, they are NOT adults. They do not think like adults...which is actually a good thing because the majority of them have more compassion for their fellow humans than adult MAGA voters will ever know. Most juvenile offenders by age 12 have spent years living in conditions so horrific that Pirro (not to mention every member of Congress) couldn't handle for more than 10 minutes without screaming and whining and begging to escape.
If one happens to be the child of someone brown (whom the Supreme Court has now deemed instantly criminal due to skin color and ethnicity…wow…can we say sooo Unconstitutional?!) one gets to watch one’s parents assaulted, shackled, and tossed into vans , kidnapped and taken to Lord knows where, while the babies wonder if they’ll ever see Mom or Dad again.
Americans don’t even have the decency to take a day of mourning for the children who die because folks have GOT to have their guns. Assault weapons and sniper rifles are priceless. Children? Expendable.
According to statistics compiled by Sandy Hook Promise in 2022, firearms were the leading cause of death for children and teens, with an AVERAGE of 7 young people dying every day. Take another moment and read that again.
A man who espoused hatred gets a flag lowered to half staff.
Two children who were praying in church when they were shot down aren’t worth mentioning any more. Just added to the pile of names of children who have been meeting the same fate for decades.
I can’t list all the children who’ve died in school shootings since 1999’s Columbine killings kicked off the “protect guns; not kids” crusade. There are too many.
Too many.
Too many.
But Dammit, I can raise my own candle and say the names of two innocent children who were slaughtered and are now forgotten by all the self-proclaimed “Christian” MAGA gun worshippers.
So today I'm remembering Harper Moyski (Age 10) and Fletcher Merkel (Age 8) who were murdered on August 27, 2025.
I firmly believe they are now in peace...and they're praying for all of us on "this side" of life, asking that the lives and well-being of ALL children become a priority in America.
If that ever happened, then maybe we'd be a step closer to calling ourselves great. I'd settle for good.
