Chia Seeds - Powerhouse Protein!

Meat prices are soaring. At Publix this week, a pound of their “market” ground beef is $7.75 a pound. A pound of organic, grass fed beef averaged $12 a pound. Aldi’s cheapest ground beef is going for 5.99 while their organic, grass fed beef is currently priced at 8.25 a pound.
Folks, it’s a good time to go vegan.
“But how do I get my PROTEIN without eating Elsie”! (I hear the screams from everywhere.) First, no one wants to believe it but you get your protein the same way Elsie does…ie. greens. But you don’t want to eat that much spinach or kale? Okay, fine.
It’s time to introduce yourself to the wonders of chia seeds (which, by the way, on amazon are currently going for an average price of 70 cents an ounce… so around 12 bucks a pound. Ha! You cry…more expensive than ground beef. Except that a normal amount of chia seeds per day - say between one or two tablespoons (equal to one dry ounce) - is going to last you a couple of months while that pound of ground beef is gone in two, maybe, three meals.
Where was I? Ah. Protein. Hold on to your hats.
Ground meat: (going with tablespoons again ) 3.5 grams in 2 Tbsp.
Chia Seeds 4.7 grams in 2 tbsp. Yep.
And , unlike beef (even organic grass fed) which carries risks of cancer and heart disease, chia seeds aid one’s health since they’re a huge source of omega-3s, fiber, and prebiotics. They also contain calcium, magnesium and phosphorus.
You have to grind the whole seeds to get the full effect but once they’re ground, you can add to smoothies. Add to oatmeal. Add to salads. Add to soups. You can even make chia pudding.
No…I have no stock in any chia seed companies! :😃
Just pointing out the benefits of a great plant-based source of protein.
Cheaper than meat.
Health improves.
