The De-evolution of Humanity

We live in an amazingly advanced world when it comes to technology, science, and medicine. Press a button and you’re able to communicate with people who live thousands of miles away. Can’t speak their language? Press another button and get instant translations. Get on a plane and arrive within a few hours in locations that would have taken weeks, even months of travel a hundred years ago. Get in a car and listen to a comforting voice tell us to “turn right in a quarter of a mile” and if we miss the turn, immediately find a different way to guide us to our destination. Pretty sure the moon landing was real since it was before AI existed to confuse us all.
We flick a switch and lights turn on even on the darkest nights. Program a weird looking little saucer shaped device and vacuum your house (and terrorizes your dog…so I’ve been told…I’m lugging around a corded sucker that weighs as much as I do but manages to pick up the pet hair!)
We can replace body parts and extend and save a life. Restore vision to 20/20. Replace limbs with prosthetics that eliminate the need for a life spent in a wheelchair.
Heck, even in non-technological areas, like sports, athletes are running at speeds never believed possible and figure skaters are performing quadruple jumps with the ease their predecessors landed a single.
And yet…with all this evolution of technology etc., here we are in 2026 with the same mindset of humans thousands of years past when it comes to how we treat the folks we share the planet with.
We’ve “de-evolved.” Don’t like where someone’s from or the color of their skin? Stick ‘em in a cage. Don’t like someone’s gender identity? Take away their rights. Commit murder? Death penalty. (Unless of course, you can bribe or coerce or con your way into becoming president of the United States or a member of his staff. )
And, as it’s been for thousands of years, want to resolve a dispute with another country? Same stupid, evil answer....War.
The youngest, the strongest, usually the poorest, sent to be slaughtered or to slaughter someone they’ve never met and have no quarrel with.
The only thing that’s changed is the weaponry.
We can kill so many more people from the air than with those famous “boots on the ground.”
Wait. I misspoke. Because, truthfully, the weaponry’s ability to provide hundreds of thousands of casualties within minutes isn’t the only thing that’s changed. It’s their potential to completely destroy this planet billions of us call home. Forever.
And what scares me the most is that not only does the (literally) demented sociopath-in-charge and his cult of followers not give a damn and even welcome the idea of total annihilation…there’s a group of people we pretend to call our representatives who could stop this. Today. Now.
Yet they won’t.
