It's the past
that pumps our
way into the or
our future, if
it's not been
moving along
just behind us.
There would be
no future for
anybody.
Still you've
got it right,
can't mull it
over and over
all the time.
Cause that's
only peddling
back in a
rushing pool.

Everything, every edifice, human or otherwise, has a past. The skyscrapers past is those who designed and built it, and its future is those who will inhabit it.
The same with our lives.
We are a grand summation of what we have all experienced since the moment we were conceived in our Mothers wombs to one second ago. How we learn from that is a continual process of choosing which resides on the cutting edge; that line we all flourish or wither on that rolls forward between the past and the future.
