Comes a point in your life when you realize you aren't in a position NOT to have a past. You've lived too long not to have one. It's the evidence that you've lived. So, what does it really matter?
Comes a point in your life when you wipe off the dust, spray on a little cologne, brush your hair, and grab the empty seat next to her, say Howdy, take turns buying 'rounds, talk, laugh, and hope for a next time.
All the past will get you is a whole sack of ghosts you can't fight. Fact is, there's nothing to fight. It's history. History just IS. That's why it's called the past. It's part of who you are, but it's not WHO YOU ARE. There's a profound difference. Remember that the next time you want to fly off the handle about someone's "past."
But the future... Now that's a whole other critter, and that's what really matters.
Take your sweetie, your self, your life, whatever matters most to you, and keep walking forward. The future's a lot more fun than a bunch of dusty old memories, letters, and photographs from a past that's over and done.
